$340,000 Settlement for Woman struck down by plummeting suitcase on Dulles Airport Escalator
Client Seriously Injured by Uncontrolled Luggage on Airport Escalator
While traveling through Dulles International Airport in Herndon, Virginia, our client was headed to catch an international flight to Seoul, South Korea. As she neared the bottom of a long escalator in the airport’s security area, disaster struck.
Another traveler at the top of the escalator lost control of a large suitcase, allowing it to speed downward without warning. With no time to react, our client was violently struck from behind, knocked off her feet, and thrown to the ground. Airport personnel rushed to assist and placed her in a wheelchair. Though shaken and in severe pain, she attempted to continue her travel plans, unaware of the full extent of her injuries.
Enduring 13 hours of excruciating pain during her flight, she sought medical attention immediately upon arrival in Korea. Imaging studies revealed multiple severe fractures in her foot, including crushed cuneiform bones and a fractured metatarsal. She underwent surgery involving multiple pins and was immobilized in a cast for over six weeks.
Despite treatment, she continues to suffer from chronic pain, stiffness, weakness, and impaired mobility—significantly impacting her daily life and ability to walk.
At David Marks Law, we are pursuing justice on her behalf. This case highlights the serious consequences of negligent behavior in public spaces, and we are committed to holding the responsible party accountable.
